Trip Blog - Day One

September 8th, 2015

Editors Note: Randy Czarlinsky, AJC Houston Regional Director, is in Israel with Project Interchange’s delegation of diplomats and is blogging about the delegation’s experiences.

The diplomatic seminar of seven officials from Africa, Asia, and Europe who are stationed in the U.S. embraced Tel Aviv on their first day, with one delegation participant stating that Israel needs to be understood, and that the only way to understand it, is to see it.

Another colleague said he had heard a number of issues related to Israel and decided that the best thing would be to come see and learn for himself.

Visiting Rothschild Boulevard, center of Israel’s famed start up ecosystem, and learning and seeing where Israeli social protests take place and what the focus of the protests center on, such as the high cost of living, helped the diplomats understand more about Israeli civil society.

The delegation also met with Lt. Col. Avital Leibovich, AJC’s Jerusalem Director, over dinner in the German Colony of Tel Aviv, to discuss geo-strategic regional issues, of concern for the diplomatic delegation.
