Miami Entrepreneurs Blog Day 5

Editor’s Note: Brian Siegel, Director of of AJC’s Miami and Broward County Regional Office,C, is in Israel with Project Interchange’s delegation of influential Miami entrepreneurs and leaders in the tech start-up community is in Israel with AJC Project Interchange, to learn from the country’s thriving tech and innovation sector while sharing best practices and making connections.

Now in its second year, the knowledge exchange launched in 2015 with support from the Knight Foundation. Last year’s inaugural delegation of Miami entrepreneurs resulted in a landmark Miami-Israel Startup Nation Conference and a knowledge-sharing agreement between Tel Aviv University - Global TAU and The Idea Center, an entrepreneurship hub, which launched in 2014 with Knight Foundation support.

After a quick breakfast, we began a fascinating day. We proceeded to Ramallah. In our meeting with Huda El-Jack, Founder and Managing Partner of ZAMN at Darna restaurant, we had a wide ranging and informative presentation and discussion on Palestinian Entrepreneurship. Huda explained in numbers and anecdotes many of the challenges and opportunities for Palestinian entrepreneurship.

We then had a tour of Rawabi, the new planned Palestinian City with stated goals to provide opportunities for affordable home ownership, employment, education, and leisure - an environment to “live, work and grow.” Heading back to Jerusalem through the West Bank, we learned a lot from our guide about Palestinian society.

We then headed to AJC’s Offices and had a fascinating discussion about Israeli - Palestinian Relations in a briefing with Dr. Tal Becker, Legal Advisor to Israel’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. His insights were deeply valuable in trying to understand the complexity of the conflict.

After surviving rush hour traffic from Jerusalem to Tel-Aviv, we started our time in this vital hub of technology in style with a cocktail reception and dinner at the home of Daphna and Jonathan Levy. It was an extraordinary gathering with some brilliant business leaders and entrepreneurs. The group met many like-minded peers and had engaging conversations with many. We were also honored to be joined by Member of Knesset Robert Ilatov, Chairman, Israeli Hi-Tech Caucus.

Another truly spectacular day.
