Trip Blog — Day Six

May 31st, 2016

Editor’s Note: Lili Kalish Gersch, Director of Alumni Engagement at Project Interchange, and Dan Elbaum, Assistant Executive Director and Managing Director of Regional Offices at AJC, are in Israel with Project Interchange’s delegation of University Presidents and Chancellors and will be blogging about the delegation’s experiences.

There is nothing quite like seeing Israel from above. Today we took four helicopters rides; including one that took us up north to the border Israel shares with Syria.

We learned so much about Israel’s strategic realities as well as the sheer beauty of this little nation.

Tomorrow we all head back to the United States. Tonight, as we shared a final dinner, we reflected on our amazing week of friendship, travel and learning.

This week confronted the complexity of the Arab Israeli conflict and deep pain on both sides. We discovered the humanity of political issues and met brave, creative individuals showing a possible way forward.

We reflected upon the amazing ingenuity of this tiny little country and wondered how more can be part of its success.

After all we have seen, we reaffirm our belief in the power of education to create positive change. And we challenge ourselves: what can we do to help?
