Project Interchange Alumna Writes About Israel-Turkey Relations

Leyla Tavsanoglu (Turkish Journalists 2004) met with Jason Isaacson, Director of AJC’s Government and International Affairs, in Istanbul. They discussed a range of Middle East issues, including recent efforts to normalize Turkey-Israel relations, the ongoing security threats to Israel from near and far and the need for a truthful rendering of those threats by international news media, and the current state of Turkey-U.S. ties. Their conversation resulted in an article in Gozlem, “Turkey Does Not Trust Washington DC.”

Texas A&M University to Open Research Center in Israel

Texas A&M University announced the launch of its $6 million marine research center that’s expected to contribute to critical projects Israel is pursuing along the Mediterranean Sea. This project, which will open in February in collaboration with the University of Haifa, was guided by Project Interchange alumnus, James Hallmark, Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs at A&M. European Journalists 2015 participant, Patrick Gensing, wrote an article in tagesschau.de about his experience on Project Interchange meeting with a 17-year old Syrian who was injured in the civil war and the treatment he received from Israel’s Galilee Medical Center. Upon the conclusion of his AJC Project Interchange seminar in Israel, Azerbaijan Ambassador to the U.S. Elin Suleymanov spoke with JNS.org about his experience in Israel, his thoughts on the Iran nuclear deal and Azerbaijan’s international relationships. Ambassador Suleymanov stated that he has been enlightened about issues ranging from Judea and Samaria’s Jewish communities, to the Palestinians, to religion and rhetoric. Full article here.
